The Imperial Star Destroyer is a set that lives and dies by its build — nearly 4,800 pieces of wedge-shaped, panel-heavy construction that will eat a full weekend and honestly earn every hour. At $700 it's a steep ask, but the price grade comes out clean because the sheer scale of what lands on your shelf is hard to argue with. That shelf presence is undeniable from across the room: it's big, it's menacing, and it reads Star Wars immediately. The problem is everything around the build experience feels thin. Two minifigures for the flagship of the Imperial fleet is almost a joke — there's no crew, no sense of life, just a massive gray wedge and two lonely troopers. The build techniques lean repetitive rather than clever; you're laying panels for hours, and while the result looks great, the process is more meditative than inventive. A high ceiling on ambition, a low floor on almost everything else.
