Speed Champions keeps shrinking the experience while holding the price — the McLaren F1 looks sharp on a shelf but $27 for 245 pieces in 2024 is a tough sell when the set doesn't punch above its weight anywhere.
Is the price fair?C-The license is doing heavy lifting at $26.99 — the kit itself doesn't justify the tag.
Will you love it?C+Looks right on a shelf and scratches the F1 itch, but the build won't stick with you.
Holds its value?CRetires quietly, moves modestly — don't count on the secondary market to reward patience here.

The Full Take
The 2023 McLaren Formula 1 Car nails the livery — papaya orange with Gulf-ish detailing, it photographs well and reads as McLaren from across the room. But Speed Champions has been coasting on brand recognition for a couple years now, and this set is a clean example of that. The build is short, straightforward, and won't surprise anyone who's touched one of these before. At $26.99, you're paying a premium for the license more than the kit, which makes it hard to call this a great deal with a straight face. The single minifig is fine, the car silhouette is solid, and kids who love F1 will still get a kick out of it — but the C+ overall is earned, not gifted. If you're a McLaren fan, there's still something here. Everyone else might want to wait for a sale.
