A chess set where the pieces fight back — and LEGO® nailed the miniaturization without losing the drama. At $59.99 this is one of the better-priced Harry Potter sets in the line.
Is the price fair?A+One of the fairest prices in the HP lineup — hard to argue with $59.99 here.
Will you love it?CMore diorama than game, but the scene it captures is hard to forget.
Holds its value?B+Retired HP sets with iconic moments behind them tend to find their floor and climb — this one fits that pattern.
The Full Take
Wizard's Chess is one of those sets where the IP and the build concept are perfectly matched — chess pieces that are supposed to be imposing actually look imposing at this scale. The four minifigs (Harry, Ron, Hermione, McGonagall) are a strong pull for any HP collector, and the board itself has real table presence. The build leans more display than play, but the scene it recreates is iconic enough that it doesn't need to do much else. At $59.99 for 873 pieces, LEGO® gave collectors a fair entry point into a theme that usually squeezes the wallet. The weakest part is what you actually take away from the box — the chess set is more diorama than functional game, and the pieces feel more like props than playable figures. Still, as a shelf piece anchored to one of the most memorable moments in the franchise, it delivers.
