The concept alone does a lot of work here: a briefcase that opens into a layered habitat for magical creatures is exactly the kind of build that earns a double-take on the shelf. LEGO® packed in four minifigs — Newt, Tina, Jacob, and Queenie — which is generous for a set at this price point. The creatures themselves, including a Niffler and a Bowtruckle, add charm that pure architecture sets can't touch. The build isn't technically demanding, but the modular suitcase structure is clever enough to hold your interest. At $49.99, this was one of the better values in the entire 2018 lineup, and the secondary market has noticed. It's a set that rewards the Fantastic Beasts fan and the casual buyer equally — not a common trick to pull off.
