The Buildable Figure line had a rough run, but Darth Vader was probably its best argument — a recognizable silhouette at a price that didn't punish you for being curious.
This is the 2015 Buildable Figure version of Darth Vader, and the most interesting thing about it isn't the build — it's how LEGO® priced a 160-piece display piece at thirty bucks in a year when that kind of restraint was rare. The silhouette reads well from a distance: black armor, the helmet, the cape suggestion. Get closer and the articulated limbs start feeling loose, the functions feel more gimmicky than satisfying, and the overall finish exposes the limits of the Constraction format. It's not a set that rewards slow building — there aren't many "oh that's clever" moments in the instructions. What it does offer is a recognizable Dark Side centerpiece for a shelf that doesn't have the budget or space for the UCS treatment. A B- feels right: not a miss, not a triumph, just Vader rendered in a format that was always better in concept than execution.
