Nya's Water Dragon EVO does one thing right: it puts a great character front and center with a creature that actually looks the part. The EVO gimmick — snap-on armor pieces that 'evolve' the dragon — gives kids a reason to rebuild, which is smarter play design than it gets credit for. At $20 it's not a bargain, but it's not a gouge either; the price just sits in that unremarkable middle zone where you don't feel great about it but you don't feel burned. Three minifigs for a small set is a decent haul, and Nya herself is the draw here. The build is straightforward — no jaw-dropping technique — but the finished dragon has enough personality to matter. For a Ninjago fan, this one lands. For everyone else, it's a fine set that doesn't transcend its theme.
