A transforming dragon gimmick in a Ninjago set sounds like a slam dunk, but $54.99 for 479 pieces makes you feel the gap between the concept and the execution.
The parts alone are worth about 128% of the street price — the basis for this B+ price read.
BargainThe parts alone are worth more than you pay — $65 of parts for $51.
The transforming gimmick is the whole pitch here — Heatwave collapses from dragon to lava crawler, and it works, but only just. Five minifigs for under $55 sounds like a win until you spread them across a build that feels thin in the hand. The dragon mode has presence but the alternate form loses structural integrity fast, which is a real problem for a set marketed on that dual identity. Ninjago has delivered tighter, more polished creature builds at this price point, and this one lands in the shadow of those. Kids will clock the transformation and move on; it's a Tuesday-afternoon build, not a weekend project. The C- on price isn't harsh — you're paying for the IP and the gimmick, not the parts.
