Kai's Ninja Race Car EVO lands in that awkward zone where the concept is fine but the execution leaves you wanting more. The car itself is compact and color-blocked in Ninjago red, which is fine on its own terms — but at $9.99 for 94 pieces, the shelf weight just isn't there. Kai comes along as the lone minifig, and he's a solid get for Ninjago fans, but one fig can't carry the whole set. The EVO mechanic — where the car 'evolves' mid-play — is a neat idea that reads better on the box than it does in your hands. As a gift it fills a slot, but kids who've handled bigger Ninjago sets will feel the difference immediately. There's nothing broken here, just not much that's special either.
