Garmadon's Volcano Lair came out of the LEGO® Ninjago Movie wave with more going for it than most of its shelf-mates. Five minifigs for fifty bucks was a strong deal at launch, and the volcanic throne room aesthetic gives it a presence that reads well even out of context. The build itself leans into drama — dark rock formations, a commanding central structure — without requiring a builder's resume to enjoy. Kids got a genuinely playable villain lair with a recognizable villain to anchor it. The weak spot is the back end: appreciation has been flat, and the secondary market hasn't rewarded patient holders. But as a set to own and display or hand to a kid, the B+ score is well-earned.
