The Full Take
The Samurai VXL has a certain beefy charm — it's a wide, armored ground vehicle with some solid Ninjago energy and four minifigs to populate it. But LEGO® asked a lot at $49.99 for what's here, and the build doesn't deliver enough clever moments to make you forget that. The techniques are largely straightforward, the vehicle reads a little hollow from the wrong angles, and the play features feel like they were checked off a list rather than designed with conviction. Four minifigs helps — Ninjago character selection is usually the strongest part of these mid-tier sets — but it can't carry the whole package. As a C- overall, this is a set that lives or dies by how deep a discount you find it at. Full price? Hard to recommend with so many better Ninjago options from the same era.
