City excavator sets live and die by their cab detail and bucket mechanism — this one gets the mechanics right but charges a premium that's hard to swallow for what's essentially a jobsite staple.
Is the price fair?DToo much money for a set this standard — the price tag doesn't match the ambition.
Will you love it?B-Functional boom arm and a clean finished look make this more enjoyable than most City construction sets.
Holds its value?C-Retires quietly, resells quietly — nothing here drives collector demand.

The Full Take
The 2024 Construction Excavator lands squarely in familiar City territory: a working boom arm, rotating cab, and a small work site packed into a compact set. What it does well is the functional build — the arm linkage feels satisfying and the finished model reads clearly as an excavator, not just a heap of yellow. Three minifigs round out the crew nicely. The problem is the $54.99 ask for 633 pieces in a theme where comparable builds cost less. It's a solid B- set wearing a D price tag, and that gap is hard to ignore. Kids who want to dig and build will find plenty to love here; anyone counting dollars before checkout might pause.
