The Full Take
Modified Race Cars lands in a weird spot: the cars themselves are genuinely playable, the color-blocking is bold, and kids who are into customization fantasy will get a kick out of swapping parts between builds. But $29.99 for 359 pieces and two minifigs in the City theme is hard to square when comparable sets do more for less. The build is quick — this is an afternoon, not a project — and there's nothing here that stretches the hobby in any direction. Display collectors will walk past it. Builders will feel the part count before they feel the fun. It's a decent enough gift if you're not watching the price tag, but if you are, there are better City options at this number.
