The Full Take
The Deep-Sea Explorer Submarine has genuine charm: a chunky, display-worthy sub, seven minifigs, and enough underwater scenery to build out a real scene. The build itself is solid — articulated claws, a opening cockpit, and some thoughtful part usage make the 842-piece count feel earned on the table. But $109.99 is a hard ask for a City set, and that price grade tells you what you need to know about the value proposition here. If you find it discounted — and it does go on sale — the calculus shifts considerably. As a play set it punches above its weight: kids get a submarine, a shark, an anglerfish, and crew to go with all of it. On the shelf it holds its own without screaming for attention. A B- overall is fair — there's a good set inside here, just not at full MSRP.
