Eight minifigs in one City set is almost unheard of — crew, diver, scientist, the works — but LEGO® charged $150 for it, which is where this ship starts taking on water.
The parts alone are worth about 93% of the MSRP — the basis for this D price read.
FairParts are worth about 93% of the price — close to what the set is worth.
The Ocean Exploration Ship arrives loaded with crew: eight minifigs covering divers, scientists, and support staff, which is rare territory for a City set at any price. The ship itself reads well on a table — multi-deck layout, working crane, a submarine tucked underneath — and kids have a lot of ocean floor to explore with all the accompanying gear. The problem is the price tag. $150 buys you a vessel that, piece-for-piece in sheer build complexity, doesn't quite justify the premium LEGO® stamped on the box. The techniques are serviceable City fare, nothing that'll make a builder stop and study a connection. Still, as a complete ocean-themed play environment with a stacked crew roster, it delivers a solid afternoon — just not a $150 one.
