Five minifigs for a $79.99 City set sounds about right until you realize the base itself feels more like a starter kit than a destination. The ocean theme does real work — submarine, diving gear, sea creatures — but the price leaves less room to forgive the gaps.
Is the price fair?DAlmost eighty dollars for this footprint is a tough sell no matter how you look at it.
Will you love it?B-The ocean world-building is genuinely fun, even if the structure itself is a little sparse.
Holds its value?C-Steady but unremarkable — don't expect this one to move the needle after retirement.

The Full Take
The ocean exploration theme is one of City's most underrated corners, and this set leans into it with a submarine, a research vessel, and enough aquatic accessories to make a kid's bathtub jealous. Five minifigs is a strong headcount that actually populates the scene. But $79.99 for 497 pieces is where enthusiasm hits a wall — the build doesn't feel expansive enough to justify the ask. The base structure is modular and playable but thin on architectural detail, so shelf presence is decent without being a showstopper. Builders will find competent construction without many moments of surprise. For the right kid, though, the play ecosystem here — multiple vehicles, diving setups, sea life — punches well above the base's visual weight. A B- overall is fair: the theme carries it more than the set earns it on its own.
