Mountain River Heist has a concept that sounds way cooler than what ends up on the table. The split terrain — rushing water, rocky cliffs, a getaway truck — gives kids a real scene to play in, and the four minifigs keep the action moving. But LEGO® City sets live and die by the ratio of fun to cost, and at $49.99 for 387 pieces this one stumbled out of the gate. The build itself is fine without being memorable; no technique here is going to stop an experienced builder mid-step. It's a solid weekend play set dressed up in an outdoorsy premise, and that's about the ceiling. If you find it discounted, the scenario clicks into place — at full retail it was always going to be a tough room.
