The Land Rover Defender nameplate carries serious weight, and LEGO® leaned hard on that brand recognition with this 2019 Technic release — but the execution doesn't back it up. The silhouette reads 'boxy SUV' more than 'iconic Defender,' and at $200 that gap stings. Inside the build you'll find suspension, a winch, and a working gearbox, which sounds great on paper but feels routine by Technic standards. 2573 pieces for this price point was steep at launch and the secondary market hasn't rewarded patient buyers the way some Technic flagships do. It's not a disaster — the build will occupy a weekend — but it's the rare licensed Technic set where the license itself outshines everything LEGO® did with it.
