The Monster Book of Monsters is a clever little novelty — but LEGO® priced a 320-piece polybag-adjacent set like it was a flagship, and that single decision tanks what could've been an easy recommend.
Is the price fair?FWildly overpriced for a novelty build this size — full retail is a tough sell.
Will you love it?CCute concept, limited payability — more of a smile-once than a keep-coming-back-to.
Holds its value?CHolds roughly flat, but don't expect it to do anything exciting in the secondary market.

The Full Take
There's a genuinely fun idea at the center of this set: a biting, snapping book pulled straight from Hagrid's Care of Magical Creatures class. The execution has some charm — the chomping mechanism works, the texture reads well on shelf, and Harry Potter fans will clock the reference immediately. But the price is where this whole thing falls apart. For what you get, LEGO® is asking way too much, and it's hard to square that with a set that lands somewhere between display piece and desk toy. The single minifig does nothing to pad the value argument. It's the kind of set you'd love at half the price, maybe recommend at a sale, and quietly skip at full retail.
