The Holiday Express Train slots into a familiar LEGO® seasonal formula: bright colors, cheerful minifigs, a circular track loop that looks cute under the tree. The problem is it never breaks out of that formula. 956 pieces gives you a solid afternoon of building, but the techniques are straightforward and the design doesn't have a standout moment that makes you stop mid-build. Four minifigs is fine, but none of them are the kind of character that earns a spot in your display year-round. At $129.99, you're paying a seasonal premium for a set that a year or two ago might have landed closer to $99. It's not a bad set — the C overall says 'decent' not 'skip' — but there are stronger ways to spend $130 in the Icons lineup.
